My initial ideas are to make a film focusing on the horror genre. I have decide to work in a group with Matthew, Connor and Liam. I will watch some short film clips from the horror genre and focus on the micro elements to give me some ideas.
The micro element i will be focusing on is sound.
i will watch some movie clips from the horror genre and listen to the usage of sound and how they maximize simple sounds there full potential
WWW: I am glad you have listened to my advice and are planning to watch some film clips to see how sound is used in horror films to create meaning / audience response.
ReplyDeleteEBI: Remember, to focus on both Diegetic and Non-Diegetic sound. It is not about how they are used to their 'full potential', it is how they are used to create meaning. But you are right in thinking along the lines of 'simple sounds' and it sometimes subtle sounds that transmit a vast amount meaning to an audience.
Show me: In your next post watch this clip of The Shinning and see how sound is used to create meaning:

Focus on: The music: When is it used? What kind of music is it? Pauses in dialogue or moments of silence, notice how they create effect. Use of voice: How is dialogue delivered? Screaming and sounds of panic, the sound of the axe breaking through the door...think about which techniques you could use in your film to create meaning.
SUPPORT: We classify sound in moving images into two groups:
DIEGETIC SOUND
NON-DIEGETIC SOUND
Diegetic sound is the natural sound of the moving image. This is heard by the characters in the film and the audience.
Non-diegetic sound is artificial sound added later. This is heard by the audience alone.
